They have been working together as an artist duo since 1999 and negotiate their cultural identity in their paintings and works. Both are among the best-known German print artists.

Biography
The identical twins Gert and Uwe Tobias were born in Romania in 1973. When they are 13 years old, the family moves to Germany. Since the late 1990s they have been working together and performing as an artistic duo. They studied in Mainz with Winfried Virnich and then in Braunschweig at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste with the "Junge Wilde" Walter Dahn. Already during their studies the brothers exhibited their works in various exhibitions. In 2004 they received the Peter-Meters-Stipendium of the Bonner Kunstverein. At the latest with their solo exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art, they have secured their firm place in the international art scene.
The brothers, who grew up in Romania, are known for their monumental prints, the invention of their own woodcut process, and their distinctive, idiosyncratic visual language, which mostly takes up mythical and folkloric motifs of their native Romania. Today they live and work in Cologne, where their joint studio is also located.
