In the 1980s, Lewandowsky belonged to the group of so-called 'Auto-Perforations-Artisten' who criticized the art business of the GDR. The leitmotifs of his art are misunderstanding as a result of the failure of communication and the processual. His works show influences of Dadaism, Surrealism and Fluxus.
Biography
Volker Via Lewandowsky is a German artist born in Dresden in 1963. He studied at the Dresden University of Fine Arts from 1982 to 1987. His studies and artistic development were strongly influenced by the political atmosphere and changes in Germany during that time.
As an artist who grew up in the GDR, Lewandowsky often addresses themes of German history, reunification, and political systems. His works reflect both personal and collective experiences and memories. In many of his works, he uses everyday objects or depicts mundane situations to present deeper questions or commentary.
His work has been exhibited internationally in galleries and museums. In addition, the artist has received numerous awards. Today he lives and works in Berlin and New York.
