Limited edition prints by Neo Rauch
The Leipzig-born artist is one of the most famous German painters today. This popularity is probably due to his individual artistic style, which is, among other things, influenced by the tradition of the art movement of the "Neue Leipziger Schule". From the very beginning, Rauch's artistic career has been inextricably linked with the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. Here he studied painting from 1981 to 1986 and was a master student of Bernhard Heisig until 1990. A professorship for painting from 2005 to 2009 was immediately followed by an honorary professorship.
Neo Rauch pursued a figurative and novel style of painting, which, in addition to elements of Pop Art, comics and commercial art, initially followed a graphically linear style and eventually moved towards a colorful plasticity. It took him 20 years to find his peculiar visual language, the artist explains. Characteristic of Neo Rauch's works is the combination of abstract elements with surreal motifs. Rauch's art is embedded in a figurative painting in which there is frequent repetition in his motivic repertoire. Ambiguous beings often appear, which he locates in natural and industrial landscapes and whose spatial relationships appear irregular. Between reality and the surreal, the artist creates pictorial worlds that refuse an unambiguous reading and open up riddles to the viewer that seem almost impossible to solve.
The Neo Rauch Graphic Foundation, founded in 2012 in Aschersleben, is dedicated to collecting and maintaining Rauch's entire graphic oeuvre. The artist donates one copy of each print work to the foundation, which now has an extensive collection. For since the 1990s, in addition to his painterly works and drawings, the artist has created an extensive oeuvre of prints that express his characteristically symbolically enigmatic pictorial worlds.
Etchings by Neo Rauch
Currently you will find in our portfolio two Neo Rauch graphics. Among them is the Neo Rauch original art print Kristall from 2010. The monochrome etching was created on handmade paper and measures 68 x 50 cm. The work is signed, numbered, titled and dated by the artist. The print shows an enigmatic scenery typical for Rauch. In the lower edge of the picture you can see a lonely and introverted figure with a long beard and stone headdress. Since Rauch often used fairy-tale motifs, this little man could even have come from a Grimm fairy tale. Behind the figure opens a melancholic scenery of coniferous and deciduous trees, which reinforces the fairy-tale surreal impression of the work.
In addition, you will also find the Neo Rauch print Einschnitt, also created in 2010, in our selection of works by the artist. The 50 x 68 cm etching was executed on handmade paper and is handsigned, titled and numbered by the artist. It shows a view of a deserted landscape, in which a house and two utility poles are still visible. In this black and white print the artist expresses a melancholic-romantic mood.

Biography
Neo Rauch was born in Leipzig in 1960. Only four weeks after his birth, his parents died in a railroad accident. He grew up with his grandparents. He first studied painting at the Academy of Visual Arts with Arno Rink. Subsequently, he was a master student of Bernhard Heisig.
Rauch came to the attention of the international art scene from the 1990s and became the main representative of the "Neue Leipziger Schule". This controversial term refers to the current of modern, figurative painting that has enjoyed great success on the global art market. Neo Rauch, as the new "shooting star" of this trend-setting movement, developed in the course of his artistic career his own characteristic pictorial cosmos of enigmatic, figurative and complex pictorial objects, which often make his artworks and editions appear as visions or surreal dream images.
Due to the great international success of the painter, his works have been shown in numerous exhibitions and museums. Today Rauch lives with his wife, the artist Rosa Loy, in Markleeberg and works in the "Baumwollspinnerei" (former cotton spinning mill) in Leipzig, which is home to numerous studios and galleries.
